Well, it is now ten days after my surgery. I think overall I’m doing really well. I still get stiff and have some pain in my shoulder and neck, especially if I am still for too long. I’ve found ways to gently move my neck to get the mobility back, and showers/heat both help a lot. I think the biggest issue now will be that it’s easy to get too tired or do too much because I do feel well.
The weather has been great the last few days. We had a wonderful time on Friday with Michael’s cousin, Stephanie, her husband, Andre and daughter Maria (1.5 years old). We walked through the park that borders our hotel, found ice cream, and a playground for Maria who clearly loves to play with her Daddy. She also loves to eat – it was truly amazing what that little one consumed while we were together, and she is still as tiny as can be.
Saturday was mellow after we had a late night Friday due to some of the worst restaurant service we’ve ever had. We left for dinner by 7, and didn’t get to eat until well after 9. I think in Germany, it’s wise to head to the restaurant before you are hungry, and you will be ready for the meal when it arrives. Yesterday I had a spa massage and got to go for a dip in the pool (up to my collarbone) and then sit on the sunning lawn they have next to the pool in a comfy lounge chair.
Today is already cloudy, so I don’t know how much we’ll be outside. Mike ran off to take a few photos before it can start to rain. Tomorrow is my final check at the clinic, although I don’t know what time yet. On Wednesday, we take the train from Bremen to Munich and will meet up with Michael’s family down there. We’ve continued to enjoy our breakfast buffets at the park hotel, but will be ready to leave before too much longer.
Hope you all are well and that summer is finally coming to Aspen – or at least spring! More to come soon.
So glad you’re doing so well! Wonderful! Really glad the weather has been good so you could get out and about. Weather.com indicates that is about to change, however. —
Awesome that you got to spend time with Stephanie and Andre and Maria. Welcome to the world of almost 2 yr olds. — Disappointed to hear about the slow restaurant service. Thought Germans would be more focused on ‘precision’…but then they’re also up for a laid back good time, too. Are you aware of the nasty strain of E. Coli that has broken out in Europe, especially N. Germany? I guess they’re still not sure of the source, but you should stay aware to do what you can to avoid it, as little as that might be. Keep on with the rapid healing! Love you guys much! It’s so easy to overdo when you’re feeling good after surgery! It’s important to remembere that your body has undergone a significant insult and not push yourself too much too fast. Enjoy each day’s progress, and find your limits. I found that if I overdid, I’d spike a fever in the evening. That was a pretty Prettyngood reminder I’d overdone! But that went away after a few weeks. If they’re telling you that complete rehab is several months, you may find that you have full function before you have full range of motion. At that point it’s tempting to quit the rehab, but hang in. It’s worth the extra effort. We’re pulling for you for a complete recovery — full range of motion, not just full function.n and no pain!!!
