I spent today photographing un-opened wine bottles in preparation for Aspen’s Food and Wine festival. This is a fun time of year which is usually the official kick-off to summer here in Aspen. I have volunteered for the festival for a good number of years and my understanding of wine has increased every year. This year I took a good long look at the wine collection I seemed to have amassed and decided to let others enjoy some rare finds. If you buy the photograph you get the un-opened bottle for free! This first wine is a 1981 Diamond Creek, Red Rock Terrace, Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Diamond Creek Vineyards. Red Rock Terrace is a 7 acre terrace micro climate that has a personality all its own.
The second wine is from France, from the region Chateauneuf-du-Pape and the winery is Les Cailloux made in 2001. This wine is a blend of grapes and should be everything a wine lover would enjoy. If the owners of this winery ever read this, please look me up; I would be honored to come over to do some photography of your wines and your land. It takes someone who loves wine and photography to infuse the spirit of your winery into a photograph.
The last wine is also from the region Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Jean Royer 2003. This family has been producing wines from this region since the 1800’s. They have an interesting history that is worth a read here.
I would like to extend the invitation to all the wineries featured here. If you want someone with a passion for photography and wine to come to your property please let me know. Passion infused photography is hard to miss!
Some advice for this weekend, Food and Wine is going to kick off summer in Aspen with their 30th anniversary. If you are going to the event, try to find a new special winery, expand your palette, and have fun! This event is one that you should experience for the next 30 years!!
