Mike and I both slept the best we have for several nights last night. I’m truly happy to be out of the hospital bed and back to a normal mattress and lots of pillows. Mike was wonderful and massaged my neck a bit when we were both up in the night, and I think it helped me get back to sleep without more drugs. I still wake up quite stiff, but it gets better as I move a bit.
We’ve just come back to our room form our first breakfast buffet at the Park Hotel. Being the folks we are, we walk into breakfast having just thrown our clothes on after rolling out of bed. Mike was wearing flip flops but at least had on his most formal black t-shirt, topped off by an Aspen Fire baseball cap. I had on my jeans and a hoodie complemented by my stylish scrunchy scarf to artfully hide my bandage. First, the staff is all attired impeccably here and everyone of them I have encountered speaks English to some degree. The men of course wear dark suits, but the women are also in tailored skirt suits with what looks to be an Hermes scarf softly tucked into the lapels. Luckily we were not quite the most casually dressed people at breakfast, being surpassed in that category by a couple in full mortorcycle gear. They looked completely as if they’d just swung in off the autobahn on their Ducatis.
The service was truly five star, with every spoon and plate just so. Mike’s coffee arrived in a small silver pot and was served to him in a dainty cup that is easily less than half the size of what he usually drinks from at home. (I think he had to drink ten cups to equal his usual two to three.) My tea was loose of course, and arrived in a porcelain pot with its own warming candle. We easily went through ten other plates of food as well, starting with bread, moving on to eggs and meats, and then fruit. I had blood orange juice to drink, and the fresh pineapple slices were the best I’ve had since being in the tropics.
I think we succeeded in our goal to stuff ourselves fully at breakfast (which is included with our room) with the hope of eating little to no lunch, which would be on our own. The weather looks to be lovely today, so we plan to explore the Park around our hotel and a little of the city. We are told that today is a national holiday in Germany for Father’s Day. Our female cab driver yesterday allowed as how it’s one of her least favorite days, as every man in the country, father or not, drinks beer to excess in its honor. All the banks and many shops will also be closed, so that makes it the perfect day to walk outside and hopefully sit by the lake.
Jenny – I’m glad that the two of you are able to have some fun and live the high life while there! Good for you. Enjoy your time together and I will continue to pray for healing.
Love & hugs,
Susan
