If you have the trip of a lifetime or just want to try out a lens or body for the weekend I strongly suggest that you look at these guys: LensProToGo
When I found out that I won a permit to go to McNeil River Alaska and I knew that some people have been trying to get a permit for y e a r s I decided right then that I was going all out and was bringing the best gear I could get my hands on. The people behind LensProToGo were the best to talk to and helped me with my numerous questions and choices. I even made some last minute changes that were accommodated effortlessly. I rented a Nikon D3s, Nikkor 200-400 F4 VRII, and the Nikkor 300 F2.8 VRII. My dream set up for this trip. I knew that I was going to be carrying some glass and the weight would be there but I had the rest of my life to recover from carrying a back pack.
The gear arrived extremely well packed. The D3s was in a pelican case that seemed like it was made for the camera. It included the battery charger and looked like new. The camera was set to all the factory defaults including focus tracking. I would suggest that before you rent gear or go on a big trip you spend some time understanding the gear your going to use and how to set it up the way you expect. I definitely missed some shots because I did not do this right away. I got there but not as quick as I should. This was my fault. This should lead you to ask a question as to how the camera body would be set up prior to arriving at your destination. I would suspect every body that is returned to LensProToGo is reset back to factory defaults.
The lenses were a dream come true. They were as new and as sharp as I would expect. They also came well packed and in their original cases. These cases are sturdy and protect this glass well.
I would suggest that you keep all of the original packing materials to send the gear back in. This is a huge time savings when it comes time to part with the gear. It can be interesting trying to find a place to store it while you are in the backcountry but can be accomplished if you put some thought into it.
Overall I will be using these guys for many years to come. They are easy to work with, smart, and have some great gear. If I were to go out and spend the money to purchase this stuff for this one shoot it would have cost me: $17,900.00 I was able to accomplish my goals, grab some photos of a lifetime and still have a home to come back to at the end of my trip. Thank You LensProToGo!
